It's been quite a long time since our last first 10 minutes, and since a story heavy game like Heavenly Sword is most appropriate for these videos I bought the game on saturday. 2 more videos will follow during the week, along with my impressions.
Update: Second part is online, with a lot of not so precise Sixaxis gameplay.

Exactly!! if sony were charging an xtra $200 for dual video cards and 2gigs of ram in the console guess what i would have a pre-order for THAT ps3, as that would GRATELY enhance my gameing experience, but not a bloody hi-def player.

WOW you finally get it the ps3 is to expensive, Sony are falling more behind everyday.. buy the time the price comes ENOUGH!, i fear it will be to late this gens war will be over IMO.

I have always understood PS3 is expensive, whether it is too expensive depends on your own opinion and circumstance.

The reason i don't own a PS3 isn't due to price its due to no games that i want for the system.

I will happily buy one when there are better games for it, it's the only way i plan on buying a Blu-Ray player thats for sure.

I think both the Wii and the PS3 can coexsist, as they target completely different area's of gaming not only in graphics but gameplay.

I find it hard to believe that companies such as Capcom, SE and Konami will want to produce game on a weaker system.

Yes they want to make money, that is obvious, but i think they will put high end titles on the PS3 and smaller titles on the Wii.

Of course but what you're assuming here is that there is a demand for these "high-end" titles. In Japan, there isn't much evidence of that (and in general worldwide, take up of HD is still in the single digits). There is no point investing millions of dollars into a high end product that doesn't sell.

Of course the PS3 and Wii can co-exist but with current trends, it's the former that is destined to be the niche product and hence you cannot expect to see the same diversity of software that we saw with the PS2.

But a lot of PS2 fans are fans of that system because of the diversity mainly brought to them from Japanese studios, if there are small developers such as Hudson and Iyama soft willing to make games on the PS3 i can't see why other devs won't.

I think dev's such as Atlus, Konami and SE will always remain close to Sony.

Again, we'll go back to trends and the long time it takes to develop and ship a game. 12-18 months ago, the perception was that the PS3 would be another PS2. I never agreed with it but then I don't have the pressure of investing my own money so far out ;) However, it is very safe to say this perception has changed. There is a significant movement of resources away from the PS3 to the Wii. What we're seeing now are the products of investments made 12-18 months ago when PS3 land was looking fine and dandy. This time next year it will be a very different output from even the most loyal of smaller publishers. Even if the PS3 turns the corner in a big way in the next few months, you won't see the heavy commitment come back to it instantly as games take a long while to develop.

You can bet your bottom dollar that if Square Enix had a meeting tomorrow to decide the destination of FFXIII (i.e. they hadn't already invested X amount of time and money into it) they wouldn't pick the PS3.

If you're developing for the PS3 right now, you're either going multi-platform, losing money or Sony are paying you the difference. It's not financially viable any other way at the minute.

Whose talking franchises? Its going to be the smallish projects that will be moved. Stuff done by Altus or Nipponichi or the like. FFXIII isn't going to be moved to the Wii. But there is a reason for the DS spinoffs and don't be surprised if those spinoffs outsell FFXIII in Japan.

That's all sorta subjective really. The fact that Sony is losing money producing the PS3 vs. the retail pricing sorta goes against that reasoning.. saying it's too expensive is basically saying it's too feature rich.

And personally, I like my blu-ray player. Hopefully within the next few years, it becomes a better game console. There should be compelling software by the years end.. I'm just a little distracted by my other platforms anyway.

It's expensive.. won't argue that. Blu-ray in PS3 is a pretty dead issue though.. and like it or not it's helping the format more than the format is helping the PS3. Blu-ray will come down in price anyway.. and eventually I think that will start to make sense.

I like my PS3. I just play games on it a whole lot less than anything else right now. It's primary functions are currently as my new PS2 and my HD movie player. If you really want one for games.. well I would think you could wait for a price drop anyway.. there's plenty of content on the 360 to play in the meantime :P

There's no way to justify Blu-ray drives price. "Nothing is being forced on anyone. That's sorta like bitching about how MS is making me pay for peer to peer gaming". That's different, to get the xbox 360 you don't have to pay for peer to peer gaming. It would be different if you HAD to pay for Xbox live just to play with the console.
I have no qualms with Sonys way. It is cheap considering it what it contains and it has it's advantages, but maybe it's too soon to force blu-ray to the market, because of the low amount of people with HD TV's.
IF this gen had started 2 years later, as in sometime 2007 Q4 it could have been very successful strategy. Because at the moment HD-television are on the rise. Another thing Sony and MS should have avoided is 1080p, 32" FULL HD television costs 3000e, not really mass appeal. I seriously hope MS and Sony go with Blu-ray/HD-DVD in the next gen, and not force yet again new format to consumers.

I'm sure there will be some interesting uses of the capacity of the Blu-Ray discs down the line but they will be infrequent and demonstrably not *neccesary* for this generation. The inclusion of Blu-Ray in the PS3 is to push a HD movie format. It's not adding a lot for those looking for gaming experiences.

When the cost of Blu-Ray drives come down, the people who care will buy standalones. Presently, the PS3 is the best Blu-Ray player on the market but it won't stay that way. There are a bunch of barriers not only to any significant adoption of Blu-Ray (and HD movies as a whole) but even to the adoption of the PS3 as a Blu-Ray player. For better or worse, it has the stigma of being a games console.

The Blu-Ray card is wildly overplayed in my opinion. It won't become relevant for years.

While there's some doubt still in regards to BR - with some developers swearing that they are using it, and being an obvious asset for HD FMV in jRPG - I think these consoles deserve the same scrutiny the Wii is getting in regards to these "premature decisions".

Okay let's start off by drawing a quick comparison to Gamecube and Dreamcast. Both those employed a similar conservative approach to their media, claiming short load times are more desireable and that space isn't an issue. Both eventually stuggled as Shenmue came out on four discs, and even Twin Snakes on Gamecube used two. Those two consoles weren't even the target of all those CG heavy games that landed on the PS2, but they still had to resort to several discs. Most people don't mind that too much, including me, but the point is there.

The PS3's lifespan is questioned by many, and it's instantly a target for these discussions. Let's just clear that out of the way and say that the platform hyphothetically sticks around for almost or as long as the PS2.

Games will eventually make use of the extra space, especially the Final Fantasies that never will resort to fully realtime sequences. Sod them? Maybe, but even so. I think this is where Wii comes in.

The most vocal doubters of the Wii's long term appeal is that "when games on the PS3 and 360 start looking *really* good and becoming *really* advanced, the Wii will suddenly look really crap. Now, I don't really agree with this sentiment, but it's a good way to make this point.

Who's to say when that happens and games suddenly transcend what we see today that "HD media" won't be a huge plus? Even if it isn't a HUGE plus it'll most definitely present a "no compromise" situation - the same kind of choice people seem so adamant in pointing out that the Wii takes away. The choice for devs to make a high end game if they want.

There's sort of a weird mentality here that one console's inability to provide something that'll matter in 3 years from now isn't an issue for another.

Sony didn't fuck up though, because Blu-Ray in time will do well because of this discission.

Obviously they fucked it up for gamers, because not everyone can afford the PS3, but thats just tough.
